Retail and exhibition
This project brief required me to create a retail and exhibition design set in an urban context between two buildings with different period styles. This gave me full scope for creating an expressive use of material and form.
The facade design of my retail and exhibition features a symmetrical layout inspired by the shape of Chinese musical instruments. I incorporated curvilinear forms into the design to complement the musical instruments’ shapes.
The exhibition was an interpretation of my chosen cultural artefacts, which are Chinese musical instruments from the plucked family. My target audience will be private collectors from the UK who admire Chinese music. Therefore, the information provided won’t be necessary.

A retail store is planned to be set up on Bishop’s Mead Road in Farnham. The location is southwest-facing and is situated between a commercial shop and a local museum, both in different period buildings.
The two buildings have a strong similarity in their construction period and material used. The building on the right-hand side is an 18th-century Georgian building, which is a museum in Farnham, with decorative brickwork. On the other hand, the building on the left-hand side is a commercial shop that used inexpensive materials and concealed them with paint.
Lighting unit design
Design a lighting unit that is influenced by the concept of my chosen artefacts.
